Meet the Droopy Eyelid Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs eyelid and periorbital surgery here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what an eyelid assessment often needs: the center’s surgical standards and revision experience, the assessment of the skin around the eye and of the eye surface itself, and the dermatologic diagnosis of a lid that is inflamed or allergic rather than low.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Periorbital and eyelid surgery · lid position and muscle function · brow assessment

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is the examination that names the cause. He measures where the lid edge sits relative to the pupil, how far the lid travels when the eye looks up, and where the brow sits at rest and in movement, because the four causes of a low lid look alike and are answered by different operations. He treats the possibility that the lid is not the problem at all — a brow that has descended, a hollow above the lid, or a cause that is not surgical — as a finding rather than a disappointment, and where the honest answer is that nothing needs doing he says so. His stated discipline is to change only what the measurements justify.

Clinical focus

  • Eyelid and periorbital assessment: skin, fat, muscle and brow told apart
  • Lid position and lifting-muscle function as the basis of any operative plan
  • Brow position and the decision between eyelid surgery and brow surgery
  • Eyelid surgery, including surgery for a weak lid-lifting muscle
  • Revision assessment when a previous eyelid operation has left a problem

The measurement decides the operation

Four different structures produce a lid that looks droopy, and the operations that answer them are not interchangeable. Removing skin from a lid whose lifting muscle is weak does not raise the lid, and it can leave an eye that no longer closes properly. The examination is short because the decision depends on a few measurements rather than on an impression.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard the plan has to meet and the backstop behind it. Patients who arrive unhappy with an eyelid operation performed elsewhere are usually assessed within his part of the service.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · the eye surface and the skin around it

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is what an operation does not address: the skin around the eye, its quality and its pigment, and the assessment of a dry or irritable eye surface before and after any surgery on a lid.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · inflammatory and allergic disease of the eyelid

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the lid that is swollen, red, crusted or allergic rather than low — the conditions that change how a lid looks, that are not surgical, and that have to be identified before an operation is planned.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with an assessment, not an operation

Arrange a consultation. We will establish which of the four causes is present in your lid, explain what treatment can and cannot change in your case, and set out the options, including doing nothing.
